This year, Paul Mercurio with Syracuse City Dept. of Public Works

has been putting together a bicycling master plan for Syracuse.

Paul attends CNY Pathway meetings, and understands what the city really needs

to create safer bicycling for all city neighborhoods, ages and groups.

BICYCLE INFRASTRUCTURE MASTER PLAN SECOND PUBLIC MEETING- AUGUST 3

F.O.C.U.S. and the City of Syracuse will hold a second public meeting on the City Bicycle Infrastructure Master Plan on Wednesday, August 3rd at 8:30 a.m. in conjunction with the F.O.C.U.S. CNY Pathways/Connecting Healthy Communities Working Group on safe alternative modes of transportation including bicycling, walking, hiking and wheeling.

The meeting will be held in the Sustainability Showcase of City Hall Commons (201 E Washington St), first floor. At this meeting the City will unveil a draft conceptual vision for the entire bicycle network along with focused recommendations for some of the high priority corridors identified at the July public meeting.  These focused recommendations will contain both short-term and long-term designs for implementing bicycle infrastructure on the priority corridors.  These recommendations include citizen input and will help the City prioritize its resources, while at the same time, strengthen our ability to secure grants in the future.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME

Previous meetings:

We met before this July 13, 2011, to give Paul some useful feedback on his project.    By all accounts, this was a useful meeting.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 13 @ 8:30 A.M. IN CITY HALL COMMONS ATRIUM

BICYCLE MASTER PLAN FOR CITY OF SYRACUSE: Bring your expertise, experiences, and ideas to the discussion on the plan – July 13 @ 8:30 a.m. in City Hall Commons: The City of Syracuse will hold its first public meeting on the Bicycle Infrastructure Master Plan on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at 8:30 a.m.  Paul Mercurio, Transportation Planner for the City of Syracuse will launch the new BICYCLE MASTER PLAN in conjunction with the next Work Group meeting of the F.O.C.U.S. CNY Pathways/Connecting Healthy Communities, scheduled for Wednesday, July 13 at 8:30 a.m. in the Sustainability Showcase, City Hall Commons atrium, 201 E. Washington St.

At this first meeting, the City representatives will be presenting a draft of cycling corridors, bike lane treatments, and recommendations for bicycle parking.  These corridors have been identified through a rigorous 13 metric system.  The bicycle lane and bicycle parking treatments will be based on national and international models that are compatible with Syracuse’s unique climate.  We are looking for public feedback to verify our inventory and comment on the models we are proposing.  It is hoped that with public support, and Council authorization, this Master Plan can become official policy of the City of Syracuse. The meeting is open to all who may be interested in alternative modes of transportation, Complete Streets, and safe bicycling. This is the first announcement of the plan. Discussion will follow.
